EXCEPTIONAL POT DISTILLED
HANDCRAFTED KENTUCKY BOURBON

Welcome to Preservation, Bardstown's hidden gem and smallest distillery. Our family’s picturesque farmstead along the bourbon trail is nestled in the official “Bourbon Capital of the World.” Here, we pot distill in micro 1–3 barrel batches with an unwavering commitment to both exceptional whiskey and sustainability. A dream more than half a century in the making, we are proud to be the first and only 100% pot-distilled producer in Nelson County, often referred to as Kentucky’s “Napa Valley” for Bourbon

Whether you're in search of barrel picks, cask-strength, unfiltered, single-barrel, small-batch, vintage bottles, or rare collectible bourbon and whiskey to take home—or simply have a passion for bourbon hunting—you’ve found your treasure.

We toured 6 distilleries on the bourbon trail…this was by far our favorite. Every variety was leagues beyond the others. Char the cat was the best tour guide. I wish I had spent more time here. Don’t miss out!!! Go!!!!!

Pioneer in the Renaissance of Bourbon

Inspired by our family’s ancient releases of prized bottles and a relentless pursuit of exceptional whiskey, our coveted Kentucky bourbon brands, established decades ago, cemented our place in bourbon legacy. Yet, we grew increasingly frustrated in our search for the extraordinarily intense barrels of long ago. Ultimately, we realized that the vintage, old-school depth of flavor we craved simply didn’t exist anymore—sparking the creation of Preservation Distillery

OUR STORY

Pot Distillation in Bardstown Kentucky

With a vision of creating a sustainable farm where we could distill whiskey the old-school way, in minuscule 1 to 3 barrel batches, we quietly began pot distilling with the hope of crafting exceptional whiskey with no fixed release date. While many whiskeys are released between 2 and 4 years (with most at 4 years and a day), our commitment is a minimum of 6 to 7 years of slow maturation. From slow distilling to the deliberately extended aging of our casks, we’re simply not in a hurry.

Premium Patience in Preserving Tradition

For peak maturity, each barrel is carefully monitored by our Master of Maturation. After more than seven excruciating years of patience, our first estate pot-distilled production is finally ready. We are now hand-selecting limited amounts of our Kentucky Pot Distilled Estate Bourbon and Rye to release under the Preservation name, ensuring that every batch meets our uncompromising standards of excellence.

Preserving History and Legacy

In 1776, pioneering distiller Wattie Boone, alongside his friend Stephen Ritchie, became one of the first documented bourbon makers in what is now Bardstown, Kentucky. On the Ritchie Farm, nestled along the Beech Fork River, Boone helped lay the foundation for Kentucky’s rich whiskey heritage.

Nearly 250 years later, Preservation Distillery continues this legacy on the very same historic land, once known as The Ritchie Land Trust. From the original barns that stood on the property, our distillery carries forward Boone’s legendary tradition of craft whiskey making, producing small-batch, pot-distilled bourbon that honors the past while shaping the future of fine Kentucky whiskey.

Guests who visit Preservation Farm are captivated by the panoramic views of Kentucky's Bourbon Country, steeped in both natural beauty and rich tradition. Once home to one of Kentucky’s earliest distillers, our farm carries deep historical significance—it was formerly the region’s Opry and remains a treasured land trust.

When we discovered this stunning and pristine land was for sale, we knew it was an opportunity to honor and preserve the extraordinary region's centuries-old bourbon legacy and history rooted right here.

The name Preservation reflects our commitment to sustainability and our dedication to safeguarding this special way of life for our children and future generations.

With a philosophy of "Thinking Forward, Looking Back"—all while making big, bold bourbon—we’ve embraced the ambitious goal of reviving the greatness of early bourbon-making traditions.

Without investors, the journey hasn't been easy, but absent the pressure to churn out massive quantities, we can focus on doing things the right way. It feels like we're getting there—one carefully crafted barrel at a time.
