Historians have long said that Kentucky Bourbon pioneer, Wattie Boone, was likely the first to officially make whiskey in Kentucky, documented as early as 1776, the same year Congress signed the Declaration of Independence. A brave pioneer, Wattie made his way through the Appalachian Mountains’ Cumberland Gap, before arriving in what is today, Nelson County.
